The Parkes Regional Airport is located 5 kilometres East of Parkes off the Orange Road and is serviced by Regional Express, which provids regular passenger services between Parkes and Sydney. REX transported some 35,000 passengers in 2008. OperationsThere are two runways located at the Parkes Regional Airport:
Parkes has windsocks located adjacent to each runway, and Pilot Activated lighting for RWY 04/22. Parkes Shire Council is currently working with consultant's Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) to reconstruct the main runway 04/22. The design and planning stages have been completed with Council now waiting on the tender documents from SKM to advertise for suitably qualified contractor's to complete the construction phase. It is anticipated at this stage taht the work will be completed by 2010. Additional funds have been applied for through the Federal Governments Infrastructure Employment Job's Fund scheme to also carry out works on the taxiway, apron and upgrade the existing runway lights. The Parkes Shire Council is the administrator, owner and operator of the Parkes Regional Airport. Council has maintained the airport since 1975 after taking over ownership from the Federal Government. The Airport is managed by Parkes Shire Councils' Facility and Emergency Management Officer, Mr Greg Godde who can be contacted on (02) 6861 2380 or email greg.godde@parkes.nsw.gov.au. Parkes Shire Council employs a fulltime Reporting Officer, Mr Frank Kenworthy who ensures that the airport is in an operational condition at all times. ServicesFlightsParkes Reginal Airport is well serviced by Regular Public Transport (RPT) being Regional Express (REX). There are currently 18 regular flights per week. The terminal is normally closed outside of the regular flight times, the termnial is open one hour prior to scheduled departure or arrival times. Safety & SecurityThe Parkes Shire Council has completed the development of the Parkes Aerodrome Manual with Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to bring the airport status from a Registered Airport to a Certified Airport. Parkes Shire has installed a Closed Circuit Television security system that monitors and records in and the area around the terminal including the carpark. Emergency ResponseThere are no Fire Fighting and Rescue Services (FFRS) at the Parkes Airport. The Local Emergency Management Committee conduct an Airport exercise every two years. The exercise is designed to practice a full emergency callout on the airport under simulated conditions and give all the relevant local emergency agencies hands-on experience of an incident at the Parkes Regional Airport.
