During the 2004 Christmas period, Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils joined forces with Parkes Taxi Service, Forbes Taxi Service and Condo Cabs to offer party goers cheaper cab fares and not drink and drive.
The major strategy of the program was the cheaper cab fares on Friday and Saturday nights and the $500 cash prize for someone who used the service. The Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer was hoping that at least 500 people would use the service throughout December. In total almost 300 of the vouchers were returned and just shy of 5,000 vouchers were distributed. Other strategies included advertising the service, posters, media coverage, evaluation survey and police enforcement.
