Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils' Road Safety Action Plan 2007 - 2008 - Published: 10 Jul 2007
This action plan includes the following programs; a joint anti-speeding program for Newell Highway Travellers, a child restraint program, the development of a fleet safety policy for Parkes Shire Council, rolling out the Catch Ya Later Condo model in Parkes and Forbes and looking at ways of making it more sustainable in Condobolin, presenting workshops for the supervising of learner drivers and more.  The Action Plan is available to download at the bottom of this page. more ..

Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils' adopted a joint Road Safety Strategic Plan in April 2006.  The Plan has six key areas; safer people, safer roads, transport and land use planning and management, strategic coordination and communication, community involvement and safer vehicles and equipment.  The Plan can be downloaded at the bottom of this page. more ..

Bike Week 2006 Final Report - Published: 10 Jul 2007

Newell Highway Fatigue Program Wins Award - Published: 15 Jan 2007

STOP. REVIVE. SURVIVE The Newell has been running across 11 Council areas for the past two years covering most of NSW section of the Newell Highway.  And it was recently short listed as an excellent project at the Professional Association of Road Safety Officers Summit's Community Road Safety Awards Dinner in the Blue Mountains.

Safer Streets in Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shires - Published: 19 Jul 2006
Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils' voluntary adopted a 50km/h urban speed limit in 2000.  The trial was a success in reducing both crashes and speed and in 2003 the NSW Government changed the urban speed limit to 50km/h.  Since that time continual decreases in both crashes and speed have been recorded. more ..

Catch a Cab 2 - Published: 19 Jul 2006

Catch a Cab was conducted over the Christmas period of 2004. The aim was to develop a local sustainable project that would be run every Christmas with little funding from the RTA and encourage local drinkers to leave their cars at home.  Catch a Cab 2 is the second phase of the project.

Speeding on bends is one the biggest road safety problems for local motorcyclists.  Look Out For Yourself was a project conducted in the second half of 2006 aimed at increasing motorcyclists awareness of the dangers and consequences of speeding.

Buckle Up Every Time 2 - Published: 24 Aug 2005

This project follows the success of the program with the same name conducted in 2003. Again the major strategy of this seat belt safety education project was to increase the seat belt wearing rate by 5% or reach 98%.

During the 2004 Christmas period, Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils joined forces with Parkes Taxi Service, Forbes Taxi Service and Condo Cabs to offer party goers cheaper cab fares and not drink and drive. more ..

Speeding: it's not worth the costs! - Published: 19 Jul 2006

The Speeding: It's not worth the costs! campaign was developed by the Youth Road Safety Team for their peers.  It consisted of three distinct phases; data collection, public education and evaluation and aimed to increase awareness of the dangers and consequences of speeding.

A Shared Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer - Published: 12 Aug 2005
Parkes Shire Council shares a Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer (RSIPO) with Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils, and the Parkes Injury Prevention Project (PIPP). Melanie Suitor was appointed to the role in 2002. During that time she has implemented a number of very successful road safety education programs, supported engineering road safety solutions and worked with a range of community groups to address local issues. Across the State Road Safety Officers operate within Councils as part of the Local Government Road Safety Program(LGRSP). more ..
