What Library Programs do you want?

Parkes Shire Council is currently investigating and consulting the Parkes community on the types of programs that Parkes Library should hold.

A review of Parkes Shire Library services has prompted this investigation and according to Shellie Buckle, Manager Library Services, the main reasons for reviewing the library program schedule are:

• The current baby and toddler storytime sessions are underutilised.
• That the State Library of NSW guidelines on the number of library programs for adults or seniors or culturally diverse community, and user education programs, is not currently being meet;
• Few programs are run for young adults; and
• Few technology related programs are run.

Shellie said "an additional amount in the library staffing budget for 2009/2010, adopted by Council on the 18 June 2009, will enable an extra qualified library staff member to be appointed, increasing the range and type of library programs offered".

"To ensure we achieve the best possible mix of library programs for the community we are encouraging submissions, not only what people would like, but also the time and day they would like programs to be held".

Submissions close on 31 July, and can be lodged in a number of ways:

In person - At Parkes Library, Bogan Street, or over the telephone, 6861 2309.
By email - council@parkes.nsw.gov.au
Written - addressed to The General Manager, Parkes Shire Council, PO Box 337, PARKES NSW 2870.

It is hoped a new schedule of Library programs will be announced in September. Until the new schedule is developed, the existing storytime held weekly on Thursday, and other programs will cease. For further information please contact the Library on 6861 2309.
