Sewerage
If you are in the Parkes or Peak Hill areas, Parkes Council provides you with sewerage services. Before ringing a plumber, it is best to contact Council first through our daytime number 02 6861 2343 or through our afterhours number 1800 648 585 so taht we can identify whether the problem is with our sewer system or is related to your property. This may save you the expense of calling out a service person. Currently Parkes Council owns and operates two (2) Sewage Treatment Works, one in Parkes and the other in Peak Hill. Both plants are typical bacteria bed (trickling filter) systems. The original Parkes Sewage Treatment Works (STW) was constructed in 1931 and has undergone augmentation in 1965/66 and 1995. Major augmentation works were undertaken on the inlet works in 1996 to cater for future increases in population and to improve effluent quality. It is estimated that to totally replace the facility would cost $5.9 million. Improvements to the inlet works, amenities building and works related to occupational health and safety were completed in 1995 are valued at $1.05 million. The Peak Hill STW was constructed in the 1960's and has operated essentially unaltered since that time aside from significant safety works constructed in 2000. Detailed information on the Parkes Shire Sewerage Services can be found in the attached Overview of Sewerage Services document. Contact Details |
