Stormwater ManagementLast modified: November 14, 2006 - 2:31 PM
Parkes Shire Council has undertaken a programme to improve the quality of stormwater runoff from the Parkes urban area. The driving force behind this programme has been the Parkes Urban Stormwater Management Plan. The development of this Plan highlighted a number of stormwater issues affecting stormwater quality. Appropriate management options to address these issues were developed along with an implementation plan, which prioritised various actions. Background Council completed the Stormwater Management Plan for Parkes in 2000. The primary purpose of this Plan is to improve the health and quality of the waterways in Parkes, which flow into Goobang Creek. The Plan will contribute to this objective by: * Facilitating a co-operative approach to Stormwater management on a catchment basis where more than one stormwater manager is present; The Plan identified two obvious "Hot Spots" in town that were greatly affected by urban runoff, Bushmans Dam (Kelly Reserve) and PAC Park Creek. Two major projects have been undertaken to address the "Hot Spots". they are, to reconstruct and rehabilitate Bushmans Dam and to install a gross pollutant trap at a major stormwater discharge point into PAC Park with complementing education programme.
