Council has produced a manual "Extractive Industries in the Parkes Shire. A Strategy for their Identification, Management and Rehabilitation".
Council maintains sediment control works during the extraction process and rehabilitates all pits after extraction is completed. A major quarry adjacent to the Parkes township has been rehabilitated using local native tree and shrub species considered rare and of high value to the Parkes Shire. Rehabilitation was carried out by two Green Corp teams.
