It should be noted that a person does not have the right to inspect the plans and specifications for any residential parts of a proposed building, other than plans that merely show its height and its external configuration in relation to the site on which it is proposed to be erected

Most other documents and information can be made available to the public unless they are considered not to be in the public interest.

Whether inspection of a document might cause embarrassment to an employee, a Councillor or the Council, a loss of confidence in Council, or cause a misinterpretation or misunderstanding of the information contained in the document due to an omission, or any other reason, is irrelevant to whether disclosure/inspection would be, on balance, contrary to the public interest.

If you would like to view a document which cannot be provided electronically, please contact Council's Administration Section on 02 6861 2333 to arrange access.

In addition any other document produced during the course of a business transaction can be obtained (subject to the restrictions below), including, for example, reports on matters Council or staff have made decisions on, development approvals on properties etc.

The restrictions are limited to the following:

  • release of the information that is not in the public interest
  • personal matters concerning particular individuals
  • the personal hardship of any resident or rateparyer
  • trade secrets
  • a matter the disclosure of which would:
    • constitute an offence against any Act
    • found an action for breach of confidence

Copies of documents may be requested, subject to copyright restrictions.  These will be provided at Council's photocopying charges.

Access to Information Under the Freedom of Information Act 1989

Please contact Council’s FOI Officer on 02 6861 2333 prior to lodging any formal application to discuss your needs.

Once completed your application can be mailed to the following address accompanied with the applicable fee (details below) or delivered in person to Council's Customer Service Centre.
