Tourism Board

The Parkes Shire Tourism Board acts under delegated authority of Parkes Shire Council (under Section 527 of the Local Government Act). The Board is charged with the execution of the tourism objectives and the observance of the tourism policies as resolved by Council. The Board has the primary responsibility for tourism planning, development and marketing in Parkes Shire. In doing so, the Board observes and implements the strategies outlined in the Parkes Shire Tourism Strategy.

The primary purposes of the Board are to: - liaise with Council, the community, the commercial sector and tourism operators; - advise on tourism development and marketing; and coordinate industry funded initiatives.

The Board is to consist of maximum 10 members:
With 2 representatives of Parkes Shire Council and the following as a guideline:
1 (minimum) Representative from Peak Hill
1 (minimum) Representative from the Bogan Way Villages
3 (minimum) Representatives from the tourism industry
1 (minimum) Representative from commerce

The current 8 Civic representatives are:

The current 2 Council representatives are:

Cr Bev Laing, Parkes Shire Council

The Executive Officer is:
Kelly Hendry, Tourism Manager - Parkes Shire Council

  • Board Members are appointed to serve a 2-year term.
  • All Board positions will be vacated and re-filled following the Local Government election set to take place in September 2008; and every 2 years thereafter.
